History of Rely IT

How did it all start?

Rely IT was born in 2008 out of a drive to create an IT company that really made a difference to the everyday lives of businesses. It started in Norrtälje, at Kyrkogatan 11, where the ideas were formed and the plans became increasingly clear. When Centre properties offered an office space at the same address, the pieces fell into place and together with his brother Ola, Mats founded Rely IT.
Right from the start, there was a clear idea: technology should be safe, understandable and work in
the reality.

The following year, in 2009, two founders became three when Johnny joined as a partner. Three different personalities and backgrounds became the backbone of what is today Rely IT, where the key has always been to have the best employees, fun at work and the best customers.

During the first few years, the company quickly built a solid technical foundation. In 2010, the first own server hall was built, which allowed Rely IT to offer actively staffed service 24/7, with certified processes that ensured operation, updates and security for you as a customer.

By 2011, Rely had grown to 12 employees and gained ICA-handlarnas Förbund as a new major customer. In the same year, it partnered with one of the world's largest analytics companies and packaged its first service based on Microsoft Terminal Server/Remote Desktop, called Rely Workspace, giving customers a flexible and secure workspace where they could work from anywhere.

In 2012, Rely took the next step into business support and retail intelligence with the launch of Decision support bank. A customised business support and benchmarking system for the retail sector, with a clear focus on profitability and improvement potential.

When cloud started to take off in earnest in 2013, Rely was at the forefront early on.

Rely got Trafikverket Färjerederiet as a customer and conducted training and feasibility studies on cloud migrations. They also built packaged services for secure migration of servers and services to the cloud.

The following years became increasingly innovative and product-driven. Rounding-up apps, a tool that helps organisations to measure and monitor quality through self-assessments and audits from the customer's perspective.

2015 saw the launch of the event app Agenda, which simplified communication and participant experience at conferences, trainings and events. In the same year, BEWI became the largest operating customer.

In 2016, Rely was ahead of its time by building apps and features based on iBeacons. For example, solutions to keep track of important equipment in healthcare and car management. It was clear evidence that Rely was not just delivering IT, but also developing technology that solved real problems for customers.

In 2017, Rely IT invested even more in culture and identity. Thoughtful interior design created a warm, personalised and familiar office where both customers and employees feel welcome.

2018 was a year of celebration with customers and suppliers, with the launch of a new service focussed on GDPR: mapping, risk assessment and improved compliance.
As cloud computing became a natural part of everyday life for many businesses, new cost challenges also emerged.

In 2019, we therefore developed services to help you gain visibility, understand and optimise your licence and cloud costs. At the same time, we focused on Azure through training and certification of our technicians, to provide you with confident guidance and maximum value in your cloud journey.

By 2020, Rely had grown to 20 employees.

During the year, SEFOS was introduced, an encrypted digital messaging service that makes it easier to communicate securely and in compliance with GDPR. In addition, Rely won the Swedish Transport Administration's procurement for Ekeröleden and developed a payment, reading and administration app for the car ferry.

In 2021, the company grew further to 25 employees. Despite the pandemic, it maintained a strong customer base with over 100 customers in total and even gained one of the larger banks in Norrtälje as a customer. Rely introduced new services to secure customers' IT environments and improve operations and availability while starting to incorporate AI as a natural part of development, with the first apps that included AI features.

2022 was launched My Bookings - a tool for efficient meeting management that saves time by simplifying the booking of time, place and service. The solution is built with a strong focus on privacy and GDPR, with data stored on servers in Sweden.

2023 marked 15 years since the start. By then, Rely IT had grown from a local initiative in Norrtälje to an IT provider operating in Sweden and Europe. In the same year, the company also became ISO 14001certified - an acknowledgement of a long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and a desire to be a responsible player in the technology industry.

In 2024, we took the next step in our development.

As we grew, both with more customers and more assignments, we made sure our premises grew at the same rate. By taking over a whole new floor on Kyrkogatan, we created better conditions for collaboration, more meeting rooms and more space for our team. For you as a customer, this means that we can continue to deliver on our promises - to be available, to work close to you and to have the right resources in place when needs change. Our growth is not about getting bigger for the sake of it, but about being able to provide you with the same personalised, secure and high-quality IT support even as we and you grow.

In 2025, we took several important steps in our further development. We were ISO 27001-certified, which means that information security is a natural and integral part of our daily work. In the same year, we were also certified according to ISO 9001, a quality standard that strengthens our working methods, processes and our focus on continuous improvement. For you as a customer, these certifications mean higher quality, better control and increased security in everything we deliver. Behind this is a dedicated team of more than 30 employees who work every day to ensure a secure, stable and high-quality IT environment, both today and in the future.

And the journey continues. With innovation, a strong culture and a clear ambition for the future, the future is best summarised in words:
“The sky is the limit, let's party!”
